These two intimate figurative works beautifully reflect the visual language associated with Khalil Ibrahim (1934–2018), one of Malaysia’s significant modern artists. Born in Kelantan and later trained at St Martin’s School of Art in London, Khalil worked across watercolour, acrylic, drawing and batik. Throughout his career, the people and landscapes of Malaysia’s East Coast remained an important source of inspiration.

Displayed together, these two smaller works have a lovely dialogue — men at work and women walking together; movement, community and everyday Malaysian life. Their intimate scale also invites the viewer to come closer and appreciate the delicacy of the artist’s lines and colours.
