Born in Kedah, Malaysia, in 1947, Eng Tay moved to New York City in 1968 to study fine art at The Art Students League. He later graduated in graphic design from the School of Visual Arts in 1972. Working across painting, etching and sculpture, Eng Tay is recognised for his gentle, rounded figures and dreamlike scenes exploring music, family, companionship and human connection.

In A Song Between Us, two figures sit closely together as one gently plays the guitar. Their relaxed postures and quiet expressions create an intimate moment filled with warmth and companionship. A vase of flowers completes the scene, adding tenderness and domestic charm. The music seems to become an unspoken language between them—a shared expression of affection and understanding.

In Harmony of Love, a graceful figure plays the harp while a smaller companion stands closely beside her. Bathed in warm, earthy colours, the scene carries a sense of protection, trust and emotional closeness. The flowing harp suggests harmony and peace, while the two figures reflect the enduring bond between parent and child, mentor and student, or two souls connected through music.
Together, these paintings beautifully express Eng Tay’s distinctive artistic language. Rather than focusing on individual identities, the artist uses simplified forms, soft colours and musical imagery to celebrate universal feelings of love, belonging and togetherness.
Collectors are warmly invited to view these original paintings in person. Their gentle colours, intimate scale and timeless emotional quality make them beautiful additions to a home or meaningful art collection.
