Generally there are 3 main types of glass using in the most of the framing shop .
- Clear glass
- non reflection glass
- Perspex or acrylic glass
Clear Glass : It is transparent and allows for a clear view of the artwork or photograph being framed. Clear glass helps protect artwork from dust, moisture, and physical damage while still allowing it to be visible. It is relatively inexpensive and widely available, making it a popular choice for framing. However, it’s worth noting that clear glass can reflect light and may cause glare in certain lighting conditions.
Non Reflective Glass : also known as anti-reflective glass , is a type of glass commonly used in framing to reduce glare and reflections. Unlike clear glass, which can reflect light and cause glare, non-reflective glass has a special coating that minimizes reflection and enhances clarity. This coating typically consists of multiple microscopically thin layers of metal oxides applied to one or both sides of the glass.
Perspex or Acrylic Glass : Both Perspex and acrylic glass are terms used interchangeably to refer to a type of transparent plastic sheeting made from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), commonly known as acrylic. When it comes to framing, acrylic glass is often chosen as an alternative to traditional glass due to its lightweight, shatter-resistant, and UV-resistant properties.
