Lau Wai Leng was born in Negeri Sembilan, in 1977. She is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She studied in the Central Academy of Art and graduated with Diploma of Fine Art in 1998. She enjoys painting Malaysia scenes, especially the Malaysian women working in wet market places. The straw hat of the women wearing is the icon of her paintings. She illustrates a market lady selling vegetables and fruits at the local market. The lady’s hands appear aged, bony, and veined, a sign of her daily labor. Vegetables and fruits are plump and fresh. The painting highlights the artist’s intention to channel positivity to overcome obstacles in life.
