Etching is a printmaking technique where a metal plate, typically made of copper, zinc, or steel, is used as the printing surface. The process involves creating intricate designs or images on the metal plate by using acid to bite into the exposed areas of the plate.
While Colour etchings are obtained by making two or three plates, each holding different elements of the image and inked in a number of colours. The paper is passed backwards and forwards through the press, each time with a different plate.
