24节气 by Tan Suz Chiang

The “24节气” (24 Solar Terms) is a traditional Chinese calendar system used to mark the changes in seasons and guide agricultural activities. It divides the solar year into 24 distinct periods or solar terms based on the Sun’s position along the ecliptic (the path of the Sun through the sky as seen from Earth). This system has been in use for thousands of years and remains relevant in East Asian cultures, including China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.

Although it was originally a farming guide, today, the 24 solar terms are often referenced in Chinese daily life to predict seasonal changes, plan events, and remain connected to traditional wisdom. They’re also recognized as part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, acknowledging their cultural significance.
