Graduated with a Degree in Urban & Regional Planning from University of
Technology Malaysia in 1997, Shireen gained fundamental studies in art from a
young age.
From 1983 to 1988, she learned watercolour painting from Tan Sik Yew
and Tan Hong Lee who graduated from Singapore Nanyang Academy of Fine Art
and Canberra Institute of Arts Australia respectively.
2004 to 2009, Tan Tong (d.2013) who graduated from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts Paris was the mentor for Shireen’s oil painting studies. From 2009 to 2012, Shireen resided in
Fukuoka Japan.
