ILFORD GALERIE Gold Fibre Pearl 290gsm is a premium baryta photographic paper created for exhibition-quality colour and black-and-white printing. It combines the rich appearance of traditional darkroom fibre paper with the precision and consistency of modern inkjet printing.
Its smooth pearl surface has a subtle sheen—more luminous than matte paper but less reflective than high-gloss paper. This refined finish enhances contrast and clarity while allowing the print to remain comfortable to view under normal gallery or interior lighting.
The true baryta coating produces deep, rich blacks, clean highlights and an extended tonal range. Fine facial details, fabric textures and delicate transitions between light and shadow remain beautifully defined. These qualities make Gold Fibre Pearl especially effective for portraits, monochrome photography and images with dramatic lighting.

Unlike textured cotton paper, Gold Fibre Pearl has a smoother surface that emphasises photographic sharpness and tonal depth. Cotton rag paper offers a softer, more painterly character, while baryta paper produces stronger blacks, clearer contrast and the classic appearance traditionally associated with high-quality photographic prints.
The pearl finish also offers a practical balance between matte and glossy surfaces. It provides greater depth and colour richness than a matte paper while creating fewer distracting reflections than a high-gloss finish.
Fine-art baryta prints should be handled carefully by their edges or with clean cotton gloves. For long-term display, we recommend conservation-quality mounting materials and UV-protective glazing. The finished print should be protected from moisture, excessive heat, high humidity and prolonged direct sunlight.
