Brian Tai is a self-taught Malaysian artist renowned for his watercolor paintings, especially of landscapes and cityscapes. Born in Klang in 1976, Tai began learning the basics of watercolor at the age of 13. He has been active in the art industry since 2013, exhibiting both locally and internationally, and is a member of the Malaysian Watercolour Society. Tai often conducts watercolor workshops in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, sharing his expertise in color mixing, perspective, and composition with participants of various skill levels.
His artistic works frequently capture the essence of urban landscapes, portraying the dynamic scenes and architecture of cities like Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and international locations. Tai’s approach often involves painting en plein air, a practice of painting outdoors to capture the immediate impression of the scene. He values the depiction of buildings not just as structures but as storied elements of the urban landscape, often exploring the interplay of light and shadow to bring out the rhythm of city life.
