Azman Nor (b. 1985, Terengganu) is one of Malaysia’s leading contemporary watercolour artists, renowned for his expressive brushwork and his ability to capture the spirit of everyday Malaysian life. Although largely self-taught, he refined his practice through mentorship under several respected watercolour masters, developing a distinctive style that balances impressionism with realism.
Working primarily in watercolour, Azman’s paintings often celebrate traditional Malay culture, village life, heritage objects, fishermen, markets, and nostalgic moments from his childhood. His confident handling of light, atmosphere, and transparent colour creates works that are both technically accomplished and emotionally engaging. Every painting tells a story, inviting viewers to reconnect with familiar memories and the beauty of ordinary life.
Beyond his artistic practice, Azman is an active educator and advocate for watercolour painting. He regularly conducts workshops, masterclasses, and demonstrations throughout Malaysia and internationally, while also participating in numerous plein air events, exhibitions, and cultural exchange programmes.
